Mestre.
Previously, the city of Mestre was an independent city. But he was always closely connected with Venice and eventually became its suburb. It is located on the mainland and has a long and interesting history. But this remains all in the past and today Mestre is part of the beautiful Venice. And the latter is confidently included in the 5 most beautiful cities in the world. It is clear that this situation attracts millions of tourists every year. And this, in turn, is reflected in the prices of the tourist infrastructure of this beautiful city.
It's worth noting that the most expensive and rich part of Venice is its island territory. And besides it, there are still areas of the city on the mainland of Italy. One of these is the Mestre and these suburbs are advantageous to use for a stop in Venice. Because here it will be much cheaper.
Mestre is the best option for stopping also because right out of it a bridge is laid on the island part of Venice. The most interesting thing in this story is that Mestre, being an independent city, was a major transport hub. Through it, the trade and communication of Venice and northern Italy was carried out.
That's why, in time, Mestre became the starting point from which the railway bridge was built. This transport main is still the main artery, which connects the island part of the city with the rest of the world.
Historically, this place is known in the annals from the 12th century. It was at that time that its main attraction, the Clock Tower, was erected. It dates from 1108 the year of construction and was at one time part of the defensive structures of the city. The last truth has survived to this day.
This situation is explained by the fact that Mestre has always taken the first blows from the enemies of the Venetian Republic. As a consequence, its defensive fortifications were often destroyed. True, realizing the importance of Mestre, the Venetian Republic has always financed the restoration works of the fortifications of the city.
The main reason for stopping in Mestre today is the availability of inexpensive hotels. The latter are mainly used as a springboard for visiting the island part of the city.
The island Venice can be reached by train, as well as by ACTV buses. In both cases, the final stop is Piazzale Roma. It is on it is the railway station of Venice Santa Lucia and bus stops.

And next to her is the San Giuliano Park. This is a favorite holiday destination for the residents of the suburbs. And on a hot day it is especially crowded, thanks to the cool shade of the trees.
And rest in the park does not always involve walks and sitting on benches. Many here come to ride a bike and take a run in the fresh air. Also, music concerts are often held in the park. Among the invited to them there are often famous performers. In addition to the above, the park offers a beautiful view of the Venetian lagoon, Venice and the railway bridge of Liberty.
In a word, Mestre leaves a very pleasant impression, especially its historical center. Yes, there are not so many masterpieces of architecture as in the center of Venice. But the preserved image of the medieval city is very stable and works well on the loosened nervous system.
How to get there/
Getting to Mestre is also very convenient. Marco Polo Airport is only 20 minutes away by bus, which runs every 10 minutes. From the train station, you can go to Milan (3 hours), Padua (35 minutes), Florence (3 hours) and other cities.
